The Difference

Matthew 12:10-13

10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

I write this as a constant reminder of the fine life, the difference, between those who are reaching for those in the pit versus those lying in the pit: our choice to do the right thing. Jesus made the choice in that moment to do what was right in spite of tradition and those who would resist the miracle in the midst of them.

I am so glad for those who take the time to do the right thing! When I was first establishing my life in Christ there were a couple men that were kind enough to take the time to hang out with me, invite me to go play music at places and to take me to church when they did not have to. Though I may not have saw what was happening then I realize now they were keeping me out of the same pit that I had been in.

Sometimes doing the right thing will not be easy, fun or popular but is absolutely necessary for the blessings of the Lord to help others! The real question is, are we willing to do what is right in the midst of adversity for someone else’s benefit? If we are to have the mind of Christ, the distinction of showing that we are truly walking the walk and not just talking the talk, then we’ll do what’s right in spite of the things we face!

Finally, to Danny and Daniel, I thank you. I will never forget the impact you had on my life as friends and spiritual brothers in its most vulnerable time.

Pray, Worship and Surrender

2 Chronicles 20:5-9,12-15

5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,

6 And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

7 Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

8 And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

9 If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

13 And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation;

15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

1) Jehoshaphat praises, confesses and declares that God is omnipotent over all and no one can stand against his power or in the way of his will.

2) He praises God for his faithfulness (his track record) to his people in the past and in the present.

3) He confessed that there was nothing they could do in and of themselves to change the situation. And by this they were totally surrendered to God for his help, mercy and deliverance.

The next thing that happened is when God spoke back.

  • If you go to God in prayer with a sincere heart he WILL respond
  • God has a word for you and your situation
  • Many times the Holy Spirit shows up after God’s people come before him to worship and confess their dependency on him.

Always remember when we confess our faults and ask for forgiveness then we get to a place where we can worship. When we can worship we produce humbleness in our heart and open up our spirit man/woman. And when we are humble in our heart we can then surrender to God and listen for his response in our lives!

Finding Balance In God’s Promises

Isaiah 41:10

10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee” – God wants to trade His fellowship for your Fears

Fear tries to overtake us all

  • fear of death
  • fear of failure
  • fear of losing security
  • fear of the future
  • fear of being alone

God answers these fears:

  • Death: “to die is gain” – Philippians 1:21
  • Failure: “I can do all things” – Philippians 4:13
  • Security: “My God shall supply all your need” – Philippians 4:19
  • Future: “Lo, I am with you always” – Matthew 28:20
  • Being alone: “I will never leave nor forsake thee” – Hebrews 13:5-6

Be not dismayed, for I am thy God” – God wants to give His comfort for your confusion

Dismay = “Why did this happen to me”

Confusion = “I don’t understand why God let this happen”

No matter what happens we belong to Him – through good and bad God doesn’t change. We are his, even in difficult times!

I will strengthen thee” – God wants to give His strength for your weakness

We have so many reasons for feeling week and weary:

  • sickness
  • regrets over our past mistakes
  • conflict with temptation

The great thing about God is that

  • God never becomes weary nor feels faint
  • Rather, he gives power to us whom faint
  • He imparts strength to those he loves

I will help thee” – God wants to give His help for your helplessness

Sometimes all we can do is cry out for helplessness

Remember to reach for Jesus because he is reaching out to you

I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” God wants to give you salvation for your sins

  • Christ is the son of God’s right hand
  • Jesus has made righteousness through a life of salvation available through faith
  • He took the sins upon Himself so that we could give them away

10 Life Transforming Actions To Making Your Life Count

Ephesians 5:1-21

5 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

10 Life Transforming Actions To Make It Count

We’ve got to learn to make it count for something. To redeem the time while we can. To be happy while we still live. To enjoy life through Christ before we die. And while we’re here, to show the difference to the lost and dying world.

  1. If you have burdens that are heavy or you have sinned and need forgiveness, repent.
  2. If you have things you want God to know are important to you to change, pray.
  3. If you want to grow in your knowledge of God and find direction, read the word.
  4. If God has been good to you for things in your life, thank him.
  5. If you want to be supported in your ministry, support the ministry.
  6. If you want your loved ones to be saved, witness to them.
  7. If you want the word to come alive in your church, live the word (be a doer).
  8. If you want people to come to your church, publish good works (tell somebody).
  9. If you want God to know how much you care about him, worship him in righteousness.
  10. If you want your church to grow, find something you can contribute to.

Stop Living In Denial And Face The Issues Through Christ

 2 Timothy 3:1-5

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

We realize that in these words that it opens a window of what should help us strive to be stable in our faith. The enemy is working through people and situations that strain our spirit. What I am afraid of more than anything is that one day we will think we have the power to overcome anything but from our denial of sins and temptations that we will be no better than our enemy.

Sadly, we church members do not sufficiently realize the extreme subtlety of our heart’s disease. Denial does not come at us loudly proclaiming to be our deadly enemy, saying, “You are a bold faced liar and you are going to burn in the Lake of Fire!” It comes like Judas, with a kiss, and like Joab, with his hand extended in friendship and his tongue uttering flattering words.

  • It’s okay to do this”
  • They can’t judge you”
  • Why should you care what anyone thinks, you should be happy”
  • It’s their fault you’re in this predicament so it’s OK to do what you want”
  • You don’t have to repent, they are just hypocrites themselves”
  • God loves you and it’s okay to stumble from time to time, even when you know better.”
  • My pastor told me it was okay”
  • It’s not like anyone sees me”
  • It’s not like it’s on facebook”

Amos 8:11-12

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

We are facing an ever constant battle of spiritual warfare. The enemy seeks to steal your mind and rob any imagination that would lead you to have a constant lifestyle aligned in God’s will. As we allow these fiery darts to prevail in our thought process we see that we begin to lose our spiritual vision (faith).  And as our spiritual vision goes we begin to try and listen for anything that will let us continue as we are and reject any notions from God that take us towards a faith that leads us blindly through our trials.

This prolonged rejection of the word leads to a cold bitter heart that has little or no acceptance to God’s word, prophecy, encouragement or exhortation.

How do we overcome denying our faults?

1)  The Worship of God and Christ will empower the Holy Ghost inside of you. The Holy Ghost will teach you and align you to the truth of God’s word and purpose, thus making you free

John 8:28-32

28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

2)  Walk in the counsel of God’s word through preaching, teaching, encouragement and what you receive in prayer/prophesy. And as you continue to walk in this way you are blessed from God being pleased with your living example

Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

3)   Examine your life daily. If the doctor tells you to examine yourself and to take care of yourself to live long…then chances are when we perform our spiritual checkups that we can deal with things and rid them in the earlier stages rather than waiting until we are in denial!

2 Corinthians 13:5

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
