What Is Of True Worth?

Psalm 145:20 – The Lord preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

John 12:25 – He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Each and every day people are going after all the things they feel is of worth: money, fame, fortune, popularity, etc. We all have our actions that we prioritize based on what we want the most. I cannot help but ask where does God lie in priority in the midst of all your business? You see, He is my all in all and the one that I fully trust in. Even in recent events in my life I have found that the value of things that were once important to me began to lose their worth. Why? I would have to say it is because I finally realized that God can only be as valuable as you allow Him to be. I could have a million dollars or could only have a dime, but regardless of which I possess as long as I have Christ in my life I can remain constant. The peace, joy, and everlasting life that you began to inherit by believing upon Him are more valuable than anything else that you could chase out in this world. Over the recent months, I have strengthened my commitment to God and have seen things that use to be of worth fall away. I realize that if I lost it all and still had God, I would still be able to find hope! There might be some of you out there that are feeling hopeless or similar to this, but be encouraged! It is great to have lots of people that know you, objects you love to interact with, and emotional highs from being so love by all walks of life, but do not let these objects stand in your way of what is of most worth to you in your life: Jesus Christ!

Put Into Practice:

This is a two-part challenge, and depending on your answer to the next few questions, I ask you to act accordingly. Are you saved by praying and asking Jesus Christ to be your savior? Have you asked for the forgiveness of your sins? Have you ever had an experience where you felt something inside that you had never felt before? Have you ever felt something that was leading you to believe there was something more to God and Jesus? If you have not asked Jesus Christ into your life, I pray that you take as long as you need and pray right now to have a change take place and a spiritual transformation take place in your life. There have been many books and methods that have tried to describe how to obtain salvation, but the most important part to know is that you have to recognize that you need Jesus Christ in your life. You have to know that you need to escape hell through the gift of Christ’s sacrifice, salvation. If you are saved, this is wonderful. I would ask you one thing: do you ask these same questions to the ones that you love? Make it your goal that you ask at least (at a minimum) on a quarterly basis through an entire year. That is not much to ask, right? You love your loved ones and those that God has place on your heart, right? Then get out there!

Giving Back To God

1st Samuel 1:26-28

[26] And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.
[27] For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
[28] Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

The following passage was the words spoken by Hannah, who which God gave a child to. In her prayer, she told God that she would dedicate her son to him for his whole life. In short, she made a commitment to God to give something back in return for her desire. The key part of this that was brought out very well in the lesson was the fact that with Hannah there was more selflessness and less selfishness. In the day and age that we live in selfishness is often justified with our own version of why we need something that allows us to do nothing back in return. This is totally the wrong attitude to have if we are to be a loving, selfless people. One part of even my life I notice daily is that everything is so important in the very moment that I’m in. What can we do to change that? First of all, we need to draw selfishness out and replace it with selflessness. We have always heard that it is better to give than to receive. Our attitude towards God needs to get away from “What can you do for me” and more towards “What can I do for you”. Our relationship with God is a two-way road, and we need to always remember to give back to God by using the gifts and talents that he has given each and every one of us. It should become normal to want to give back, not to retain without giving.

So the question you need to ask yourself is, what am I going to give to God today?

1st Samuel 17:23-26

[23] And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.
[24] And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
[25] And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.
[26] And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?

When all of the men of Israel retreated in fear of Goliath, David stood around them and had the boldness to say “that he should defy the armies of the living God?” This statement showed a clear display of faith to believe that our living God could conquer all that is ahead of us, no matter the size of the trial to come.  Even in the days of Davids youth, he faced things like killing lions, which would have been considered one of the more trivial tasks to carry forth. David had many tough jobs, and in our day we all have many tough things to face. Let your youth be youth once again, and remember to carry the zeal and energy that God has placed within you. With boldness in your resolve to believe in our living God, there is no trial that you cannot conquer!

About Desire

So many times the wants in our life are based on our desire. We often can fill the desires on our own, but these things might not be God’s will for your life. The small thoughts that I am having today are these:

“To commit is to take action and follow through on your desire.

With no passion comes any desire.

With no desire comes any commitment.

With no commitment comes any blessing.”

With trust and commitment to God, you will build faith and strength and security in your life. Then, we can lead others to him.

Psalm 112:1-10

[1] Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
[2] His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
[3] Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
[4] Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
[5] A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
[6] Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
[7] He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
[8] His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
[9] He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
[10] The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

Don’t let details steal your desire. We must trust and commit to God for the blessing.
