Names of God: Exploring God’s Character

This book is a wonderful series that divides each daily section into three main phases: names of god, attributes of god, and promises of God. Each daily read is relatively quick (5-6) minutes and is very fulfilling to the mind and spirit. There is a variety of stories, devotionals, scriptures and quotes that perform a good blend of quality reading that are surrounded around a general theme. I would have to say one of my favorite sections is the one related to the name of living water.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a book that you can get for a young Christian that would encourage growth without the intimidation of a 500+ page study guide.

Loose That Man And Let Him Go

Funny story here: I picked this book up when we were in the middle of one of our church building fundraisers. Who would have thought that I would have found a diamond in the rough!

There is a chapter in particular that I loved above the others, where Bishop Jakes is talking about how we as men can fall into the “Saul syndrome”, with us oftentimes failing in things simply because we still try to be as we were and not as we are.

Here is one of my favorite parts straight out of the book: “Father, prepare for your son. Pastor, prepare for your successor. If you dare to become involved with the next generation, then you will always be a part of their success rather than intimidated by it!”

If you have a man of God in your life, get this for them. It really is a good read.

And always remember when you are done with one, pass it on or recommend! That helps the ones who work so hard to write them!

How To Interpret Dreams And Visions: Understanding God’s Warnings And Guidance

I for one have always been amazed when I read the word of God, especially the parts that are tied into dreams. In this book Perry Stone discusses the dreams that we know of in the bible, as well as his explanations on how to begin to understand some of the dreams that we all have. There are some wonderful testimonies of his as well as others that talk about the way God has used dreams in their lives. If you are a dreamer and want to begin to have a better understanding of dreams that are from God (and those that are not), then you need to grab a copy of this today!

God’s Promises For Your Every Need

When it comes to reading there is one thing that works the best for me: it has to be short readings at a time! With that said, I finished this book in roughly 8-10 days. I love the way that the chapters are laid out in it. For example the header says for the first chapter that “Jesus Is Your…” followed by a list of subsections like “Savior” and “Security”.

If I had to pick a section that I loved the most it would definitely be the chapter that talks about “What the bible says about praise”. I am always looking for scriptures and teachings to better help the promotion of praise in the church!

I recommend and hope you can find a copy to enjoy as well!

The Purpose Driven Life: What On Earth Am I Here For?

I am now happy to say that I have made it through the 40-day journey of reading this book, and I have one word for it: fulfilled. I really have come to realize a lot of strengths and purposes within myself that I may have let go unnoticed for even longer than necessary! Rick Warren really gets the reader to focus in on themselves in a gentle way that addresses not only inner purpose but the troubles that hinder it.

If you are looking for a 40 day devotional with quotes, verses form multiple translations, and easy to read sections than this would be a great book to start you into the “reading” chapter of your life.

Worship 365: The Power Of A Worshiping Life

Now that I have completed this book recently (as of today), all I can say is one word: empowering. This book empowers each and every person to be a constant voice for the importance of worship by not only the act of worship for ourselves but for all others who need led to that deeper walk!

The part I love about David Edwards work is that He gets the word of God worked in throughout the book in all the right places! There are also titled sections if you can only digest a little at a time. This works best for me as I feel that trying to take it all in at once loses its great spiritual value! I highly recommend!

Prayer And Worship – A Spiritual Formation Guide

When I first saw this book and thumbed through it, I wondered if it would be something that I would truly enjoy or not. I can say now after making my way through it that I am glad that I picked it up.

The book in essence not only covers what it’s title says (Prayer and Worship) but attempts to touch on some other areas (trusting, celebrating, waiting, asking, longing) as well. What I enjoyed doing the most was actually writing within the book the answers that it was asking about me personally. This gives a reader a good opportunity to verbalize on paper and get things out to where they can think and meditate. I loved it, and would recommend it for anyone who likes this style of book and wants a deeper walk with God in praise and worship.

Leonard’s Biblical Chronological Chart

This chart has some very detailed information about some specific things that you may be interested in. I loved it for the many different references that it has given me to begin to interpret and understand the historical aspects and lineage. The print is small for sure (as there is a lot of info) but well worth it if you have room for it on your wall!

I have read some reviews a compiled a list of the best parts:

  • Information on Jewish sects, weights, measures, and divisions of time.
  • Family tree of the Kings of Judah and when they reigned.
  • Time as well as Biblical lengths, distances, and money. It gave the Biblical term and the modern equivalent (like a Sabbath Day’s journey equals 3/4ths of an English mile). The origins and main beliefs of the Sadducees, Pharisees, Scribes/Lawyers, Essenes, and Samaritans.
  • A map showing the voyages of St. Paul with Scripture references.
  • A family tree of Jacob’s family showing his descendants at the time they arrived in Egypt.
  • A family tree of the Kings of Israel and when they reigned.
  • A map of the Exodus: the Israelite’s journey from Egypt to Canaan with Scripture references.
  • A list of Scripture references for the miracles of Jesus.
  • A map of Canaan at about 200 B.C. with the location of the 12 tribes of Israel marked on it.
  • A chart showing the periods of Scriptural history (Creation to Deluge, Deluge to the calling of Abraham, etc.) and the number of years they covered.
  • A time-line border ring. The outermost ring gave the dates. Inside that told the event that occurred (Old Testament for the left, top, and right sides; inter-testament period for the bottom-right corner, and New Testament for the bottom). Inside that were the Scripture references for the event. Inside that was information about the books of the Bible–who they’re written by, how much history they cover, and/or when they were written.

Go For The Goal: Motivational Stories about Men of Achievement

I received this book from a family member a few years ago and read it rather quickly back then. A month or two ago I read it again, and thought that it was worth put a post out there for just in case you might be a person who enjoys really short books!

This book has a good amount of inspirational quotes with different goals to achieve for. It has small inspirational stories throughout, and is a very small read (about 40 pages). It would be very ideal for someone younger in age who would read but doesn’t like to read much. When you put the book down after you are finished, it definitely leaves you with inspiring thoughts and stories to think on. It also definitely gets you thinking about your walk with God. So if that is your intent with someone who digs sports and God, you might want to slip this in their room or their bag sometime!
