Lyrics: If It Had Not Been The Lord

Who was your shelter through the wind and the rain
Who kept you safe at the enemy’s gate
Who was your shield on the firing line
Who gave you victory – who turned the tide

If it had not been the Lord
Who was on your side
When the world rose against you
When the tide rose high
When the battle was lost
And we drowned in the dark
We would be in despair
If it had not been the Lord

Who was your help when all your friends had gone
Who stood by your side – never left you alone
Who healed your body – who spoke to your storm
Who made a way out of a dead end road

If it had not been the Lord
Who was on your side
When the world rose against you
When the tide rose high
When the battle was lost
And we drowned in the dark
We would be in despair

If it had not been the Lord
If it had not been for mercy
If it had not been for grace
If it had not been for the One who took your place
If it had not been for power
If it had not been for love
If it had not been for Jesus and His precious blood

Lyrics: There Is Nothing Greater Than Grace

What do you say to someone who feels like they’ve lost it all
Over the edge with no one there to break their fall
And what do you say to someone who feels so unloved
Giving themselves away a little bit every day just to be good enough
And what do you say to a hopeless soul who can’t remember their way home
And everything is out of their control

There is no valley, there is no darkness
There is no sorrow greater than the grace of Jesus.
There is no moment, there is no distance,
There is no heartbreak He can’t take you through.
So before you think that you’re too lost to save,
Remember there is nothing greater than grace.

What do you say to someone whose life is on the line
And they’re unsure what happens after their last breath in time
What do you say to someone whose built a wall you can’t break through
And it’s so hard for them to hear the truth

There is no valley, there is no darkness
There is no sorrow greater than the grace of Jesus.
There is no moment, there is no distance,
There is no heartbreak He can’t take you through.
So before you think that you’re too lost to save,
Remember there is nothing greater than grace.

So don’t lose hope, don’t let go
Don’t give up, you are not alone

There is no valley, there is no darkness
There is no sorrow greater than the grace of Jesus.
There is no moment, there is no distance,
There is no heartbreak He can’t take you through.
So before you think that you’re too lost to save,
So before you think that you’re too lost to save,
Remember there is nothing greater than grace.

The Purpose Of The Ministry

God’s purpose is to build up the body of Christ. It is not your agenda, your ideals or your doctrines. It is to build up the body of Christ by saving the saving of souls and renewing of weary hearts.

Ephesians 4:11-16

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

V11 – God has a team assigned to the saints to Maturity

  • Apostles and prophets through their writings and words
  • Evangelists teach us the value of soul winning
  • Pastors and teachers keep believers strong in faith
  • They are called to “perfect” or “mature” the saints

V12 – Who is to do the work of the ministry? The saints!

Saints are to do the work of the ministry:

  • saints are those who have been born again
  • All believers are called to do the work of the ministry

We tend to reverse the divine plan by:

  • making pastors do the work of the ministry
  • people show up to listen and critique sermons
  • congregations seek to perfect the pastors to minister
  • we are becoming paid spectators

By doing this:

  • the church becomes as slow as s snail
  • Members miss the blessing of the ministry
  • When the body is not busy it creates busybodies

We must return to being the WHO behind the ministry

V12 – What is the work of the ministry? Anything that builds up the body of Christ!

The ministry is anything that builds up the body

  • to edify is to build up
  • What are you doing to edify? Fellowship? Support? Compassion? Praying?

The ministry is caring for the afflicted

  • Comforting the sick and sorrowful

1 Thessalonians 5:11-14

11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

  • Visiting and care for the fatherless and widows

James 1:27

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

  • Being a caregiver for the physical needs of believers

Romans 12:13

13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

  • Helping the poor

Romans 15:25-26

25 But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.

26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.

  • Helping those overtaken by a fault

Galatians 6:1

6 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

  • Encouraging one another

Hebrews 10:25

25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

V13-16 – What happens when we do all the work of the ministry?

  • The church is unified
  • Believers become Christlike
  • Christians become solid in faith
  • The church is protected from false teaching
  • Love flows through all preaching and teaching
  • The church grows and is known for fellowship and love

– And out of this people can be saved, delivered and set free!

An Attitude of Gratitude

Luke 17:11-19

11 And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?

18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.

19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

  1. God’s mercy should always yield thanksgiving. (an attitude of gratitude)
  • ok now that everything’s good I can go back to how I was (repeating failure)
  • preacher I praised him last week, I’m good. (neglecting thankfulness takes us further from humbleness and closer to pride)

Psalm 107:1-3

1 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

  1. God works through Jesus (v. 15).

– We must exercise our faith through Christ, the door to God, the voice to God’s ear, the intercessor by the sacrifice.

John 10:9

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

  1. Getting close to God is a matter of trusting him. One who seems far away can really be near.
  1. The outsider, the foreigner (allogenes), is the most sensitive to Jesus. Those who respond to God may not be the ones we expect to respond.
  1. God’s blessing can be appreciated or underappreciated.

Where Two Or Three Agree

Matthew 18:18-20

18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

gathered together” – a meeting

Gathering in His name is the one activity that the church must never allow to get old, stale, dry, dead or worn out. He IS the purpose for gathering together: it’s all about him. Jesus is the reason, the focus, the gathering center, the audience of significance.

When we gather together in His name we should come expecting the breath of God (holy spirit) not only to call us together but to give us new life. The promise of His presence is the reward for when we gather of His name. When the presence of Jesus is there everything is possible and available.

Psalm 16:11

11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

in my name” – an agenda

The presence of Jesus is promised; however we must come with an agenda that is “in His name”. Our agenda must be to lessen of ourselves (which is filled with doubt, discouragement and unbelief) and begin to surrender what puts our faith in question to God. As we lessen our hindrances we begin to open up the potential for the impossible to become possible.

John 3:30

30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

I am in the midst of them” – a presence

God’s presence is a concentration of the essence of God – his glory. The Hebrew word for “glory” is chabod, meaning God’s honor, God’s renown, God’s majesty, God’s glory, and God’s visible splendor. It filled Solomon’s temple and will one day fill all of the earth when it is poured out.

1 Kings 8:11

11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.

Aligning Our Daily Life

1 Corinthians 14:40

40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

  1. Pray (keeping your cares before God)

Psalm 86:3

Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.

Psalm 55:17

17 Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

  1. Keeping the Word (living what you say you believe)

Psalm 61:8

So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

  1. Receive Counsel (listening to God and his word through multiple channels)

Proverbs 8:34

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors

  1. Admonish Others (encouraging one another)

Hebrews 3:13

13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

  1. Searching the Scriptures (searching for answers)

Acts 17:11

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

  1. Consecration (death to flesh)

1 Corinthians 15:31

31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

  1. Surrender and Service

Luke 9:23

23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

The Five Stages of Worship With God (Go Deeper!)

Isaiah 6:1-9

As you feel God there are steps we can take to go deeper into his midst:

1) Recognizing his power, his holiness and his glory

Isaiah had a vision of the Lord enthroned around the praises of heaven. Immediately he recognizes God’s awesome glory, holiness and power. The Hebrew word for holy in verse 3 means separated and unapproachable. The Hebrew word for glory means God’s authority, greatness, and weighty presence.

6 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

  1. Recognizing our own sinful conditions (anything that hinders us to God)

Once he is in the presence of the glory he realizes he is undone in his presence and recognizes and acknowledges his own shortcomings. Because once you are in his glory all of your faults become visible and apparent.

Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, theLord of hosts.

  1. Confessing our mistakes to God and asking for our forgiveness.

Confession always opens the way to grace and mercy. Only God can bring the purity he wants in us through Jesus Christ.

Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

  1. Once Isaiah is forgiven God then shares his need for a messenger.

5) And once Isaiah hears the call he responds with surrendering to it.

Only after his cleansing did he receive his calling.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, and to devote the will to the purpose of God.
